The virus is named Viral
Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS)

The VHS virus kills both sport and
rough fish species

Lake Superior is currently free of the
virus

The fish virus and other invasive
aquatic species are carried in ships’
ballast water

Lake Superior will soon be infected if
all ballast water is not disinfected

Equipment and disinfectants are
both affordable and readily available
for installation on all carriers
entering Lake Superior

Laws are in place to prevent the
spread of this virus using
disinfectants

Izaak Walton League of America and
Save Lake Superior Association will
take legal action against the
responsible federal or state
agencies for failing to enforce these
laws if necessary
